The Artist & The Artwork

Part of our exclusive Artist Edit, this dress features Beyond the Fences, an original artwork by Alabama-based artist Mary Ball. She holds an MFA from the prestigious New York Academy of Art. Her work has been exhibited at Sotheby’s in New York and featured at the New Orleans Museum of Art. A recipient of the Academy Scholar Award, Mary has also been selected for artist residencies in New York and Texas. Her dreamlike paintings, inspired by nature and the subconscious, are celebrated for their expressive compositions, rich textures and imaginative storytelling.Inspired by the natural world and its often-overlooked details, Mary's intuitive, expressive paintings explore the space between reality and imagination. Abstract forms, fluid brushstrokes and richly layered textures come together to create a dreamlike landscape, beautifully translated from canvas to fabric.

Tucked into the layers of abstraction, a playful dog emerges from the painterly landscape, bringing a sense of companionship, curiosity and spontaneity to the artwork. For Mary, dogs embody the uninhibited joy of living in the moment, a spirit that runs through her intuitive, dreamlike compositions.
